We went to Puerto Rico for the first time in May of 2017 and stayed at the El San Juan Hotel. And we fell in love with the island and more importantly the people. We’ve traveled to some amazing places, but Puerto Rico still is still one of our favorite destinations.
Puerto Rico Instead of Maldives?
We planned a trip to visit Puerto Rico in September of 2017 for our one year wedding anniversary. And then Hurricane Maria devastated the island. We reluctantly canceled our trip and ended up taking a trip to Florida. But we are ready to visit our favorite place again. And we want to spend our tourism money in Puerto Rico and help the recovery.
So yes, call us crazy, but we canceled hotel reservations and a planned trip to Maldives for our second wedding anniversary to go to Puerto Rico instead.
Puerto Rico is a magical place. We’ve never met friendlier people. And it’s just such a relaxing and romantic place. The food is delicious, the beaches are some of the best in the world and the mojitos go down way to easily.
Our hearts broke for the people of the island following Hurricane Maria. But the Puerto Rican people are strong and they will recover. But instead of not traveling to the island, we want to be a part of the solution. So we can’t think of anything better than spending our second wedding anniversary in Puerto Rico and getting a chance to relive last year’s trip we missed out on.
So instead of spending a week in one of the most remote and aspirational destinations in the world, we will instead be spending our two year wedding anniversary in San Juan. But honestly, we can’t think of anywhere else in the world we would rather spend our special day. And we absolutely can’t wait to return to one of our favorite places.
