When booking a hotel room, we encourage you to book your room direct with the hotel or hotel chain. Why? In addition to their Best Rate Guarantee (more on that below), if you are signed up for their loyalty program (Hilton Honors, Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest) you receive points for your stay, free wifi and you are often eligible for other perks like room upgrades and late check-out.
But what happens if you see the same hotel room you were booking on the hotel's website cheaper on another booking site like Priceline or Expedia? Don't worry, you can still get that same price and sometimes an even better deal by booking direct. Over the past several years, nearly every major hotel brand has launched a Best Rate Guarantee.
One of the best ways to search for hotel prices is simply by using google. If you are staying at the Conrad New York City, just google Conrad New York City and enter the dates of your stay. Google will then return the rates from Hilton and most other sites such as Priceline, Expedia and TripAdvisor. It's an easy way to ensure you are getting the best available rate!
Here's what you need to know about each hotel brand's best rate guarantee policy and how it can save you money!
Hilton guarantees you will always get the lowest price when you reserve a room through an official Hilton booking channel (their mobile app, website or reservation line). If not, they will match the lowest price and give you an extra 25% discount.
For example, we were booking rooms at the Conrad New York for a trip over Labor Day. The rate listed on Hilton.com was $246.00 per night. The same room was listed on TripAdvisor for $236.00 a night. While $10.00 isn't a huge deal, it was worth submitting a Best Rate Guarantee claim for the extra 25% off. Hilton honored the claim and with the extra 25% off, we ended up getting the room for $177.00 a night. A savings of $69!

Marriott Brand Hotels & Ritz Carlton Hotels offer the Look No Further® Best Rate Guarantee. You must book a Marriott or Ritz Carlton room using any Marriott reservation channel (Marriott.com, RitzCarlton.com, Marriott Hotel Telephone Reservations, or directly at a hotel). After making that reservation, if within 24 hours of making your reservation, you find a lower hotel rate for the same hotel, room type and reservation dates, and submit a qualified guarantee form, they will match the rate + give you an extra 25% discount on the room.

Hyatt Hotels offers its Best Rate Guarantee when you book on Hyatt.com. With no booking fees, you can book a stay at any Hyatt hotel or resort including Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara properties, and get the best published rate available anywhere online.
If you find a lower, qualifying rate published on another site, Hyatt will not only match that rate, but they'll also give you a 20% discount for your entire stay.
Starwood Hotels offers a pretty straight forward Best Rate Guarantee policy. If you find a lower qualified rate after booking a room on Starwood.com or any official Starwood channel within 24 hours of booking, they’ll match it and give you a 20% discount or 2,000 Starpoints. IHG Hotels Best Price Guarantee is interesting as they'll actually give you your first night free if you find a lower rate than the one published on their websites!
IHG guarantees that every hotel reservation booked through an IHG website will have the lowest room price (room rate) or total room cost (including all taxes and fees) publicly available on the Internet.
If you do find a lower room price (room rate) and total room cost (including all taxes and fees) publicly available on the Internet on a non-IHG Website within 24 hours of booking, IHG will provide your first night’s room price free and match the lower average nightly room price found for that stay for the rest of the nights of that stay.
Kimpton is a boutique hotel chain that was recently acquired by IHG. We've stayed at several Kimpton properties and LOVE their quirkiness and boutique feel. But their Best Rate Guarantee isn't quite as good as some of the bigger brands. That said, you'll at least get the lowest price available and a $25.00 food and beverage credit.
If you do find that lower price on another booking site, just call Kimpton toll-free at 1-877-536-0508 and they'll match that rate and treat you to a $25 dining credit for your trouble.
Best Western Hotels are great for families and you can find them nearly everywhere. And they offer a fantastic Low Rate Guarantee.

Choice hotels is another great brand for families. With mid-scale hotels dotted across the globe, you can find a Choice Hotel nearly everywhere (Comfort Hotels, Quality Inns, etc.
Simply book your room online at ChoiceHotels.com, call 800-4CHOICE or book by calling the property directly. If you happen to find a lower published price for the same date and terms on any other qualified online source, Choice Hotels will not only match that rate, but they'll also give you a $50 Reward Card to spend any way you want.

We've recently stayed at a few Fairmont Hotels and we love their upscale, classy, high end service feel. And they also offer a Best Rate Guarantee!
If you find a lower qualifying rate online, Fairmont will match it and give you a 10% discount when you book through Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Global Reservation Center.
