Our Verdict

The H Hotel Los Angeles is a brand new Curio Collection hotel that opened in 2017 near the Los Angeles International Airport. We love Curio Collection hotels and couldn't wait to try out this aviation themed boutique hotel.

The H Hotel Los Angeles

We had a layover in Los Angeles before continuing on to Vancouver, BC. We decided it would be a great opportunity to try the new H Hotel. The aviation themed boutique hotel is located close to the airport. The H Hotel is located less than 1 mile from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The newly opened hotel has 290 rooms.

The H Hotel lobby has a modern and sleet look with aviation decor.

The hotel also has a business center and lounge area located off the lobby. In addition to an iMac and Windows Desktop computer, the business center also has several work areas for business travelers.

The Room

The 290 rooms feature either two queen or a king size bed. Our king size room was larger than a typical hotel room with both a couch/sitting area and a desk and work area. The room had several large windows overlooking the airport runways. Be prepared for the noise associated with the adjacent airport. While we did not have a problem sleeping, it definitely could be a factor for light sleepers.

The rooms also have a decent size bathroom including a vanity, toilet room and walk-in shower.

The H Hotel has toiletries from Temple Spa, a brand we had weren't particularly familiar with, but we definitely enjoyed their aromatic scents.

Dining

The hotel has two dining options including a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Coffee Shop and the main restaurant, Waypoint Kitchen. Waypoint Kitchen has a great ambiance with more aviation decor.

Gold and Diamond Hilton Honors members get complimentary breakfast in the Waypoint Kitchen. Yes the complimentary continental breakfast does fulfill the requirements by Hilton. But to be honest, the complimentary breakfast for elite members was probably one of the worst I've seen. A bowl of fruit and a piece of toast is severely underwhelming. Hopefully the hotel revisits this policy.

Amenities

The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle to and from the Los Angeles airport. While in theory it should work well, we had a very poor experience waiting excessively long for a shuttle pick-up (almost 45 minutes). It's advertise that the shuttle runs every fifteen minutes.

The H Hotel also has a fitness center that is open around the clock. The fitness center has a decent variety of equipment including weight machines, free weights and treadmills and bikes.

A seasonal small outdoor pool is located on the ground floor. The pool area has several tables and lounge chairs.

One of the best things about the H Hotel is the rooftop deck. Not only is the rooftop a great place to relax but it offers incredible views of the Los Angeles Airport. It's honestly an aviation geek's paradise.

Final Thoughts

The H Hotel Los Angeles is a great addition for business and leisure travelers that need a nice hotel located close to the Los Angeles International Airport. The H Hotel offers incredible opportunities for aviation geeks to catch incoming and departing aircraft with a huge rooftop deck overlooking the airport. Rooms were comfortable, although a bit noisy, and amenities like the pool and fitness center were definitely appreciated. Hopefully the hotel can continue to improve their complimentary shuttle service. And while the hotel's restaurant is convenient, it would be nice to see breakfast benefits improve for Hilton Elite members.
