Sugar Cookies-You Have To Try These
Best Sugar Cookies, Ever
Growing up as a kid there was nothing I liked more than helping my mom bake and decorate sugar cookies every Valentines Day as it was a yearly tradition. Now I am pretty sure I bake better sugar cookies than my mom, but don't tell her that.
Serves: 30-60 Depending on cookie cutter size | Difficulty: Average | Time: 3 Hours 10 Mins
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 1/2 cups All-Purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract and egg in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Heat oven to 375ºF. Lightly grease cookie sheet.
Divide dough in half. Roll each half 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters or if you don’t have a cookie cutter use a drinking glass. Place on cookie sheet.
Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until edges are light brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.
To make frosting, In medium bowl, mix powdered sugar and butter with spoon or electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the milk.
Gradually beat in just enough remaining milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable. If frosting is too thick, beat in more milk, a few drops at a time. If frosting becomes too thin, beat in a small amount of powdered sugar.
