Conrad New York
If you've read any of our other blog posts, you probably know by now that we are a big fan of the Hilton Chain of Hotels and Resorts. Conrad Hotels are a luxury brand in the Hilton Family of Hotel brands.
The Location
The Conrad New York is located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan along the Hudson River. Surprisingly enough, the Conrad New York originally opened as an Embassy Suites. The hotel is owned by Goldman Sachs (it's across the street from their offices). In 2011, Goldman Sachs announced they would renovate and completely remodel the existing Embassy Suites and the hotel would be re-flagged as a Conrad. Why? Rumors have it that none of their partners wanted to stay at an "Embassy Suites" and ultimately chose the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park. So Goldman Sachs renovated their hotel and it became part of the luxurious Conrad Brand.
Anyway, enough history. The Conrad New York is now described as a luxe all-suite hotel with an atrium lobby that overlooks the Hudson River in Battery Park City The hotel is a 9-minute walk from the 9/11 Memorial, 1 World Trade Center and the subway. The modern suites have a 2-room layout with separate living and sleeping areas, espresso machines, flat-screen TVs and WiFi. The hotel features a 24-hour fitness center, a Mediterranean restaurant and wine bar, a seasonal rooftop lounge and a barbershop.
We stayed at the Conrad Miami in 2016 and we loved the hotel and the Conrad Brand. So we were looking forward to staying at another Conrad Hotel. And the Conrad New York didn't disappoint.
After staying off 5th avenue near Central Park during our last New York City Trip, we actually preferred the location of the Conrad New York in Lower Manhattan's Financial District. Weekends in Lower Manhattan tend to be fairly quiet since the area revolves around business. We enjoyed the fact that it was less crowded and not quite as busy.
As stated above, the Conrad New York is less than a ten minute walk to the 9/11 Memorial, located right along the Hudson river, close to Battery Park and right across the street from the Brookfield Center Mall. There are also several restaurants in close proximity to the hotel including a newly opened Shake Shack (we aren't fans of fast food but we love Shack Shack) and El Vex, a Mexican restaurant. The Chobani Cafe is also within walking distance (you definitely need to check it out).
The Room
We were upgraded to a king suite featuring a view of the Hudson River. The room had two rooms, a large living room and bedroom which were separated by the bathroom. The bathroom had one of the nicest walk in-showers we've ever seen in a hotel (very spa like). Compared to typical New York City hotels, the rooms at the Conrad New York which are all suites, were huge. The bed was comfortable and typical of most Conrad Hotels, the Conrad New York supplied toiletries by Aromatherapy Associates.
The Food
The main restaurant in the Conrad New York is the Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant. The Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant offers New American-inspired cuisine - with a mix of 'old world' elegance and contemporary flair. We had breakfast at the restaurant both mornings. The first morning we had their weekend buffet which featured eggs, several meats, breakfast potatoes, pastries, yogurt and fruit. The second morning we ordered off of the menu. Hilton Honors Gold & Diamond members get either a free buffet breakfast or $20.00 per person to order off of the menu.
The hotel also has a seasonal rooftop bar, Loopy Droopy. We stopped by the rooftop bar one evening and had a cocktail, but the bar did close early due to heavy rain. The atmosphere was great with a an amazing view of the Hudson River. Drinks are a little expensive, but overall we'd still recommend grabbing a drink and enjoying the views.
We would highly recommend the Conrad New York. It was in a great location, extremely luxurious and comfortable, the breakfast benefit for Gold and Diamond Hilton Honors members was on par with other high end Hilton's we've stayed at and the staff was extremely attentive and courteous.
And for those of you who collect the Conrad Stuffed Animals, the hotel staff had a Conrad New York Bull delivered to our room prior to checkout.
We will likely stay at the Conrad New York again on our next New York City Trip!
