Miami Beach EDITION Hotel (A Ritz Carlton Partner Hotel)

Our Verdict

On our latest trip to Miami Beach, we decided to do something we don't normally do. Stay at a hotel chain other than Hilton. We were celebrating our one year anniversary and decided to splurge on the Miami Beach EDITION hotel, which falls under the Ritz Carlton Brand. EDITION hotels are a boutique lifestyle hotel brand combining simplicity, fashion and glamour. If I had to make a comparison, I would compare the EDITION hotels to the Hyatt Andaz Brand.

Check-In

The front of the Miami Beach EDITION hotel was beautiful and the hotel is housed in what was once the historical old beachfront Seville Hotel building. The hotel is located on three and a half beachfront acres, has two pools, a nightclub, a bowling alley, a skating rink and two restaurants.

The valet took our car and luggage and we passed through the beautiful lobby to the front desk. The check-in process was fairly straight forward and we were given a small room upgrade to a partial ocean-view standard king room. The guest service representatives did seem a bit cold, but overall, the check-in process was efficient.

The Room

The hotel has 294 guest rooms and 23 bungalows. Our room was beautiful and did have a partial view of the Atlantic Ocean. The rooms are modern and luxurious yet minimalist and are decorated with light oak-paneled walls, white furnishings and ivory porcelain slab bathrooms.

The Food

The hotels two restaurants are the Matador Room and the Market. The Matador Room serves a modern interpretation of Latin cuisine influenced by Spanish, Caribbean and South American flavors. We had dinner at The Matador Room and had the Arroz Con Pollo which was absolutely incredible. The Market also serves lunch, breakfast and dinner and we had breakfast in the Market one morning. The Market also serves coffee from La Colombe, one of our favorite coffee roasters.

The Amenities

The Miami Beach EDITION has two outdoor pools with an outdoor bar and poolside snacks. Drinks are a bit pricey, but that's expected at an upscale Miami Beach Hotel, coming in at around $18.00 a drink for cocktails. We enjoyed lounging in the pool both days with mojitos.

One of our favorite things about the Miami Beach EDITION was The Basement. The Basement has a bowling alley, ice skating rink, bar and night club. We decided to try out the ice skating rink one night and had the time of our life (and neither one of us fell - we were quite good actually haha). It was hard to believe we were ice skating in Miami Beach, Florida. But it was a fun experience and The Basement was definitely one of the best features of the Miami Beach EDITION hotel.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but I would be lying if I didn't say we didn't leave feeling a bit "underwhelmed". For a high end, expensive, luxury hotel in Miami Beach, the hotel staff came off as cold and the service wasn't quiet as good as what I thought it should be. While it wasn't a terrible experience, I think next time we are in Miami Beach we will try a different property.
